How to Create a More Peaceful Home
Posted by Garman Group on
You want your home to be a place where you can feel relaxed and at peace. But we know this can be hard to achieve because it can be challenging to know where to start. We’re going to give you some tips to hopefully help you create a more peaceful home.
Clear Your Clutter
We’re sure you’ve heard this before, but having too much clutter in your space can create stress and impede relaxation. Purge as much as you can and have a designated place for everything you keep.
If you work from home, ensure you have a dedicated space you can close off at the end of the day to keep it out of sight and out of mind.
Rethink the Layout of Your Rooms
Think about what you like to do in every room of your house and design it to work well. If you visit with family and friends in your living room, arrange the furniture to create an area to nurture this. Move things around your kitchen to streamline your meal prep and allow the rest of your family to get in and out quickly while grabbing snacks. And make your bathroom into an oasis where you can have a bath or shower and take some time for yourself.
Possibly the most important room to make peaceful is the bedroom. You want to feel comfortable and safe in this room so you can rest and recharge every night. Many people find that keeping televisions and other electronics out of the bedroom helps them relax more, and having blinds and/or blackout curtains is essential to block out any light that may be causing restless nights.
Decorate in Neutral & Comforting Colours
Having rooms decorated with dark and bold colours can be a fun décor look and make a great statement for the room. But when it comes to feeling serene, lighter colours are definitely the way to go. Look for neutral colours like cream and off-white. You can add in some soft pink, light blue, or pale-yellow colours, as well as some lightly textured pieces to break up the all-white look and make it look more attractive while keeping it peaceful.
Bring Nature Inside
Nature is naturally healing, so bringing elements of it inside your home will improve your mood and create a more peaceful environment. Plants and flowers help clear the air and brighten up a room, and adding in pieces of wood or trees as décor is a great way to bring nature inside. Even dried flowers and faux plants work if you don’t have the time or energy to buy and nurture real ones — just don’t forget to dust them occasionally.
Have Decor that Makes You Smile
If you’re going to have art displayed in your home — make it personal. Have photographs of your family and friends to remember good times and art done by your kids or friends. Why not blow up a favourite beach shot from a vacation you took and place it on your wall? This will not only make you think of happy times, but it will add to the relaxed feel of the room.
We hope you’ll be able to transform your home into a comfortable, peaceful oasis that you love spending time in. However, some houses make this difficult due to layout, location, or other factors beyond your control.
