Fixing Your Patio Up with These Quick Tips

Posted by on

The Summer of 2020 is going to look quite different than any summer we've experienced before. But that doesn't mean it can't still be fantastic! We're likely going to be spending a lot more time at home than we usually would — and the warm weather will draw us outside. So, how summer-ready is your patio? No matter how big or small your patio is, you'll want to spend some quality family time out there. It will also become a welcoming place for any friends and family you've decided to let into your bubble. Here are some great tips to get you started.

Fix Cracks or Unevenness

If you've been watching the cracks on your patio get bigger or stepping over some unevenness, it's time to fix that! Get some crack sealer or hire a professional to come in and re-pave the area, so it's smooth. You want your patio to look great while also preventing any injuries from occurring.

Clean It Up

Chances are you have moss or weeds growing on your patio or looking a little dingy. Power wash your patio (check to make sure your patio can withstand the harsh pressure before you start) and reveal a fresh-looking new surface. You may need to re-paint portions or all if it still looks dingy or has a lot of chips in the paint. And consider staining and/or adding a protector to keep it looking nicer for longer.

Get Some Quality Furniture

If you currently only have a few plastic chairs on your patio, it's time to upgrade! Invest in some comfortable chairs for the long hours you'll be spending outside. Make sure everyone in your family has one, plus get a few extras for your visitors. If you don't have ample space, get ones that fold up so you can tuck them in a corner when you're not using them. And make sure you get weatherproof cushions, or you'll have to remember to bring the cushions in with you every night.

In addition to getting a table large enough to dine around, pick up a few end tables to place your drink or book on when you're enjoying some alone time on the patio. You can also consider adding an outdoor rug, a hammock, a water feature, extra pillows, a fire pit, or an awning or cover for those occasional drizzly days.

And don't forget about the lighting! Which deserves its own category…

Make Sure You Have Great Lighting

You shouldn't have to go back inside once the sun goes down, so make sure you have proper lighting for your patio. Outdoor lighting has come a long way, and you can find anything from small lamps for end tables to large floor lamps. Make your space fun and festive by adding some string lights or a few tiki-torches.
