8 Christmas Events to Check Out in 2019

If you’re still looking for some fun things to do over the Christmas season, look no further! Take part in these Victoria Christmas events that you can do alone or with your friends and family to get you into the holiday spirit.
The Royal BC Museum has a spectacular old town set up that really takes you back and shows you the way life used to be — including all the smells! The only thing better is seeing Christmas in Old Town, on now through January 9th (included with admission price to the Royal BC Museum).
Kids of all ages will love seeing what Christmas looked like in olden times. And if you haven’t had a chance to bring the kids to visit with Father Christmas, check online to see when he’ll be arriving at Old Town.
While you’re at the BC Museum checking out Christmas in Old Town (and all their other incredible, informative exhibits), take a short trip outside and check out the Old-Fashioned Christmas at Helmcken House.
Helmcken House is the oldest house in BC that’s still on its original site — and it’s all decorated for Christmas! Check out what Christmas was like more than 100 years ago through first-hand accounts, music, and decorations.
Head down to the Parkside Hotel & Spa before January 5th to see some incredible works of art made of gingerbread at the 11th Annual Victoria Gingerbread Showcase. These sensational gingerbread creations are all built and donated from members of our community.
And don’t forget to donate to vote for your favourite — all proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity’s affordable homeownership program.
While you’re at the Bay Centre finishing up your Christmas shopping, stop and take a look at all the magnificent trees decorated by local businesses. You’ll be stunned at how unique some of these trees are!
This year’s Festival of Trees is on until January 6th, and a donation to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation allows you to vote for your favourite.
Take a festive walk through the Forest of Wishes at Chateau Victoria until January 2nd. You’ll have a chance to see all the sights and sounds of the Christmas forest and look at all the special wishes made by other members of your community.
If you want to add your own special wish to the forest, make a donation to the Times Colonist Christmas Fund at the front desk and they’ll provide you with a slip of paper and an ornament!
Victoria’s own Ghostly Walks tour group has some extra special, spooky Christmas stories to tell during the holiday season on their 90-minute Ghosts of Christmas Past walking tour.
These tours run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night during the season, with extra dates right around Christmas. More information and tickets are available here.
This year, there’s a brand-new Christmas event in Victoria! The Downtown Victoria Business Association members have worked together to create an all-ages, all-access, free holiday extravaganza in Centennial Square. The first-ever Lights of Wonder runs December 13 through December 30.
See the giant decorated tree, take a walk through the canopy of lights and the fun light tunnels, and enjoy some food and beverages from one of the many vendors. Although this extravaganza runs every night, special vendors and performers, as well as a Giving Booth to help local charities, run Thursday through Sunday nights only.
Butchart Gardens is beautiful at any time of year — but at Christmastime, it feels extra special thanks to the Magic of Christmas at the Butchart Gardens! It’s definitely a must-see Victoria Christmas event.
From now until January 6th, colourful lights, carollers, an ice-skating rink, and many other special treats take over the gardens so you can enjoy some family fun.
From all of us here at the Garman Group, we hope you and your family have a fantastic Christmas season!
